Press AMB. 30 September– ten rounds were enough for the Dominican Javier «The Drone» Fortuna dispatched to Pudge Velasquez in title defense 130 pounds super featherweight World Boxing Association.
Getting off the ring, Fortuna said: «Before the fight I said that this global band belongs to the Dominican Republic and would defend with blood and fire and I did,» he said proud of his triumph by TKO 10.
Fortuna (29-0-1, 21 KO) solved a shaky start, but then kept control of the actions with fast combinations that offered an appetizer in the second assault when he floored Velasquez (19-2, 12 KO) in the ring of the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas.
The Puerto Rican protection received its count by the referee Russell Mora, and followed up under the subjection of the Dominican champion who never stopped throwing punches. Velasquez, meanwhile, began with a profuse nosebleed that would haunt him for the rest of the match.
«The Drone» Fortuna was a real hurricane of blows to the opponent who tried to take the punishment, but each round looked beaten by the champion who in the ninth and tenth assault did not let him breathe.
Given the lack of response from the Puerto Rican, the referee stopped the bout decreeing the victory of Fortuna who made his first successful defense of the title won in May.
